クリスティアン・ボッフェッリは1972 年イタリアのVaprio d'Adda（ミラノ県）生まれ。1996 年にミラノブレラ国立美術大学絵画科を卒業後、ブラジルのサンパウロで滞在制作を行いました。
現在は東京とイタリアを拠点に制作活動を続けています。ボッフェッリは1994 年に初めての作品を発表して以来、ニューヨーク、サンパウロ、東京など世界の主要都市で活動してきました。2002 年には知的障害者の創造活動のための社会協同組合「L.P.K.工房」を４人の作家と共に設立し、10 年以上にわたり障害者や子供の表現活動の促進に寄与しました。彼の作品は、版画やドローイングの技法を用いて、人間や動物の変わり続ける形を独特の方法で表現しています。
本展では、札幌の天神山アーティストインレジデンスでの3 ヶ月間の滞在制作の成果を発表します。ボッフェッリの表現手段として親しんできた「線」をテーマにしつつ、今回の作品には新たに「影」の要素が加わりました。これらの「影」は、投影するものそのものが欠けているにもかかわらず、それ自体で完全な存在として表現されています。この「影」の領域の出現は、レジデンスの森を夜中に彷徨う不思議な生き物を「狩る」試みか
ら、その痕跡を辿る過程で生じたものかもしれません。あるいは、果てしない暗闇の中で、アーティストの内面で繰り広げられた物語から生まれたのかもしれません。

Yu Harada is pleased to present a solo exhibition by Italian artist Cristian Boffelli.
Cristian Boffelli was born in 1972 in Vaprio d'Adda (Milan), Italy, and graduated from the Department of Painting at the National University of Fine Arts of Milano-Brera in 1996, after which he spent time in Sao Paulo, Brazil, where he lived and worked. He currently lives and works in Tokyo and Italy. Since his first works were exhibited in 1994, Boffelli has worked in major cities around the world, including New York, Sao Paulo and Tokyo, and in 2002 along with four other artists he founded the L.P.K. Workshop, a social cooperative for creative activities of the mentally challenged, which has contributed to promoting expressive activities by people with disabilities and children over the last 10 years. His work uses printmaking and drawing techniques to express the everchanging forms of humans and animals in a unique way.
This exhibition presents the results of a three-month residency at the Tenjinyama Artist-in-Residence in Sapporo. While the theme is based on the familiar ‘line’ as a means of expression for Boffelli, a new element of ‘shadow’ has been added to the work this time around. These ‘shadows’ are represented as complete entities in their own right, despite the lack of the very thing they project. The emergence of this ‘shadow’ realm may have resulted from an attempt to ‘hunt’ the mysterious creatures that roam the Residence Forest in the middle of the night, in the process of following their trail. Alternatively, it may have emerged from the story that unfolded inside the artist in the endless darkness. We invite you to witness the creative evolution of the artist through the works that emerged from his residency in Sapporo, and to see new works that are the fruit of Boffelli's unique perspective and expressive power
